help for heroesEDUARDO’S IN VILLAMARTIN was the perfect setting for last week’s Gala Dinner in aid of the Help for Heroes charity. With British Vice Consul, Lloyd Milen, the Councillor for the Coast, Jose Antonio Aniorte and International Residents Officer, Stefan Pokroppa, in attendance, as well as ninety other guests, it proved to be a very successful evening with nearly €3,000 raised for the UK based charity, which helps and supports injured servicemen and women returning from conflict.

The excellent food matched the great atmosphere and with wine flowing and brilliant music to enjoy, courtesy of Ricky Powell and Rolling Stones tribute band, Rolling Rocks, everyone had a wonderful time.

PROUD

The delicious meal was over too soon and as the coffees were served, the Vice Consul addressed the guests and thanked everyone for attending the event. He said: “I understand how important it is to support the British forces in Afghanistan and I am very proud to be here to represent the British Consulate in Alicante at an event which is for such an important cause.” He added: “On behalf of the charity, I would like to thank RTN for their sponsorship, Eddie from Eduardo’s for hosting the event and Eileen Cobb for organising the event.” Equally, the Councillor for the Coast was also happy to be there. He told RTN: “I am delighted to be here to represent the Orihuela Town Hall and the Mayor, Monica Lorente, at this event. Thank you for inviting me.”

HOLIDAY

Lloyd then went on to pick the winning ticket of the first prize in the charity raffle, which had over forty prizes in total; all generously donated by local businesses. There were also six auction prizes, one of which, a holiday to anywhere in Europe, raised a massive €500 alone. A last minute donation to the auction, courtesy of the neighbouring Chevi’s Golf Society, of a golf day for two; including buggies, green fees, insurance and a buffet meal after the game raised another €80 and along with a book written and signed by Matt Croucher, a Marine Commando serving in Afghanistan, which raised €150; money raised from the auction; raffle and ticket sales, amounted to €2813.84.

Eileen concluded: “It was a great evening and we are looking forward to organising our summer gala evening, which will be held at La Finca Eduardo’s in September. I would like to say a great big thank you to Tony Horn; without his assistance, this event would not have happened.”
