It's been a long time coming, but Britain finally launched its own answer to American reality TV show The Hills on ITV2.

The Only Way Is Essex centres on a group of friends and associates and their high-maintenance lifestyle in Brentwood. Starring Jack Tweed's best friend Mark Wright, the hour-long first episode on Sunday lived up the Essex stereotype with lots of fake tan, hair extensions, designer watches and lots of champagne.

Clearly for a slightly older audience than The Hills, the episode included intimate shots of women's bikini lines, an angry ex-girlfriend shouting the C-word across a nightclub and open discussions about one night stands.

The new show, narrated by Denise Van Outen, will run for 10 weeks, with each episode being filmed only a few days in advance.

Club promoter Wright, 23, was right at centre of the drama as the episode opened with him being frequently called by his ex-girlfriend Lauren Goodger, who he has been dating on and off for nine years. The self-proclaimed Mr Essex admits to his friend 'Arg' that he wasn't ready to settle down just yet and was non-committal when Lauren asked him if he would be attending her birthday party at local nightclub Sugar Hut.

Completing the cast is Mark's older sister Jessica, who is hoping to start a pop career with her girl group Lola. The show has already secured some celebrity fans on Twitter, with Alan Carr, Katie Price, Chris Moyles and The Saturdays' Frankie Sandford all writing about it.
